When this fly sheet arrived I was initially skeptical because it says "ECONOMY" across the front, which suggested to me this will be shredded by any slightly rambunctious horse on the first wear. I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find that all though this sheet is indeed made of a light, tightly woven polyester fly fabric (not the tougher "mosquito mesh" of some designs), it had a variety of features that made it stand out from the fly sheet crowd and upgrade its functionality. First off, the sheet has a fully attached hood that on first glance appeared too long for my horse's neck - it had lots of extra fabric that pooled at her withers and did not fit cleanly in length along her neck. However, I realized this was to ensure she could graze without any of her neck becoming exposed to sun and flies - a nice upgrade from my current sheets, which leave the top third of her neck and bridlepath exposed when she stretches down. The hood does need to be attached to your horse's halter via included Velcro straps to stay fully in place.
Additionally, this sheet features a fully belly band with elastic straps and surcingle buckles - meaning if your easy keeper is rocking a "hay belly" by summer's end, the sheet will have enough stretch and give to ensure it still fits. The sheet provided fully coverage over my horse's rump, but I did need to add a tail band beneath her tail to help the blanket stay in place. Overall, a solid fly sheet offering that may not stand up to the most strenuous pasture use, but will be cool and functional on most horses.
PRODUCT INSIGHT:
This fly sheet is nicely lined with slick polyester on the chest and shoulders - preventing rubs, but also increasing the heat of the sheet somewhat.
